Who to Watch: Angels, Rangers

Written by Charlie Saponara on .

The Who to Watch heads out to the left coast for a look at the AL West. While the Angels offense seems to be getting a bit older, the Rangers have a group of up-and-comers featuring a mix of power and speed. Who will be the one to watch?

Josh Hamilton: Bargain or Bust Again?

Written by Charlie Saponara on .

As far as storylines go, we could not have had two different ends of the spectrum when it came to Josh Hamilton's 2008 and 2009 seasons.  2008 marked Hamilton's incredible rise to stardom, earning him the nickname "The Natural" and putting him smack dab in the middle of Yankee stadium where he thrilled the crowd to their feet with Ruthian blasts during the home run derby.  2009 was not nearly as kind or storybook-like.  Hamilton was caught relapsing in the offseason and the photos spread like wildfire across the internet.  His season, as it turned out, was also a relapse.  Hamilton struggled to a .268 AVG with only 10 home runs while spending a considerable amount of time off the field and on the DL.  For fantasy owners, there will be a tough decision to make with regards to Hamilton on draft day.  His stock is lower than in 2009, but the risk remains.  Do we use a fourth/fifth round pick on Hamilton in 2010 or will there be no sequel to his magical 2008?

Who to Watch: Cubs, Cardinals

Written by Charlie Saponara on .

The Cubs and Cardinals have long been one of baseball's best rivalries, but who has the better fantasy players? Brett Greenfield and I continue our seriesby finishing out the NL Central. Today we look at some Cubs and Cards players you want on draft day and others that you should avoid.

Kouzmanoff is free of Petco...(and the subsequent fantasy impacts surrounding it)

...but he now enters the spacious settings in Oakland.

The Oakland A's and San Diego Padres have agreed to a deal that will send former Padre Scott Hairston, whom the A's acquired in the middle of last season, and minor league outfielder Aaron Cunningham to the Padres for Kevin Kouzmanoff and minor league second baseman Eric Sogard.  What does this do, if anything, for your fantasy baseball team?

Getting LaRoche Late

Written by Charlie Saponara on .

It is now official, the Diamondbacks have signed first baseman Adam LaRoche to a one year deal with an option for 2011.  As you can see from the chart below, LaRoche hits most of his home runs to his pull field, so Chase Field should be a nice fit for his swing.  (Image via hittrackeronline.com)

Learn to Stay Calm and Listen to Music (and Write About Fantasy Baseball)

Written by Charlie Saponara on .

I was halfway through breaking down my recent mock draft when, for some reason, the window I was working in decided to stop working, freeze and erase all of my work.  This isn't the first time this has ever happened to me, but I literally took the entire day today to dedicate to writing rankings, future articles and this particular mock draft so I can have next week to dedicate to my upcoming draft guide.  To say I was frustrated would be an understatement, but I logged onto Pandora.com, pulled up my "Copeland" station and decided to just write.  So crank up some music, perhaps the songs I suggest below, and join me for some fantasy baseball analysis in relation to the songs in my head...

2010 Positional Ranks: Second Base

Written by Charlie Saponara on .

Second base was a very scarce fantasy position last season, but with the emergence of some young players as well as a few who gained surprise eligibility, there is considerably more depth.   Who made the biggest leap forward last season and who is ready to do so in 2010?  The second base positional rankings...
