Jared Weaver was a walk and a passed ball away from perfection last night, but had to settle for the 9th no hitter in Angels history last night. It would have been the 5th, but some dude named Nolan Ryan had to be selfish and throw four of them.
Bryce Harper had a clutch 3 hit night that included two doubles and 2 runs scored. One double came in the 9th and was a table setter for Ian Desmond to hit a game winning HR. Despite less experience, Harper is currently winning the battle of the top prospect performances over Mike Trout so far.
Where to begin with all the action and surprises in baseball last night? Weaver? Harper? Lynn? This is too much to process in one paragraph. It's a quick jump into bullets today.
is the first 5 game winner in the NL this year. Who saw that coming? He was originally slated to be the odd man out when Chris Carpenter returns from the DL. Lynn has an ERA of 1.60 and a 0.77 WHIP. Inducing a grounder 56% of the time, he should see continued success if he can maintain his stellar walk rate (1.86 BB/9)
Not that it is fantasy relevant, but check out the video of this abysmal call in yesterday's Rockies vs. Dodgers game.
Chipper Jones adds to his legacy with a walk off HR. Since it came in the 11th inning, we can be assured it wasn't one of the 8 runs that Roy Halladay gave up yesterday.
Houston third baseman Chris Johnson suddenly find himself on the verge of Yahoo!'s Top 100 players list. Currently sitting at 105, he is batting .311 on the year with 12 R, 2 HR, 14 RBI and 2 steals. Of course before last night's 4-for-4, 2 HR, 6 RBI performance, he was batting .279 with 10 R, 0 HR and 8 RBI, so I wouldn't be scrambling to get him off the wire yet.
Pablo Sandoval hurt his hand or wrist last night and had to leave the game. He is going to be re-evaluated this morning and we should now more then, but there has to be some worry here given he missed 40 games last year with a broken hand.
Jesus Montero is getting the bluk of the catching duty now with Miguel Olivo hurt. He already has catcher eligibility in Yahoo! leagues, but still needs 2 more starts to get it in ESPN leagues.
Pitching Match ups
PHI @ ATL - Blanton vs. Delgado - Delgado has been sketchy in his last couple outings. I'd bench him in mixed but play him in NL-only.
CHC @ CIN - Dempster vs. Bailey - Dempster coming back off the DL. I'd give him the green light.
SEA @ TB - Milwood vs. Niemann - Start Niemann. Don't start Milwood unless he can go all Jake Peavy on us, but I don't see that happening.
PIT @ STL - Bedard vs. Westbrook - Both get the green light.
MIA @ SF - Sanchez vs. Vogelsong - Sanchez is a nice start here. I'm lukevwarm on Vogelsong.
ARI @ WSH - Kennedy vs. Detwiler - Both have been top notch this year, both need to be played every outing... for now.
CLE @ CHW - Masterson vs. Danks - Benching both
NYY @ KC - Phelps vs. Duffy - Benching both
TOR @ LAA - Morrow vs. Haren - Playing both
