Daily Notes - The Work is Crazy Edition
Hey all! Work is crazy today so I don't have quite as much time as I would like to delve into the notes. We'll be going quick like a fox today and then run through tonight's pitching matchups.
Tommy Milone didn't get the K's like he did in the minors last night, but he made it through 8 IP in his debut giving up 3 hits and walking 3, without allowing a run. We always like it when a pitcher can get a WHIP below 1 in games.
Henderson Alvarez, one of my favorite sleepers this year also had a strong debut going 6 inngs, giving up 1 run on 4 hits and a walk while striking out 2.
Omar Infante had a 2 HR day. We all saw that coming...
Despite fanning 9 Marlins, Cole Hammels only made it through 5.1 innings and gave up 8 H's and 3 earned. No walks through.
Sergio Santos blew his 2nd save of the season.
David Freese continued his torrid start, picking up another HR and 2 more RBI to give him 8 on the year. He is batting .417 now. Rafael Furcal had an 0-for-4 night to drop his avg to .435
Yu Darvish gave up 4 runs in the first inning but still got the W in his first MLB game. He was really shaky throwing his first 6 pitches, all fastballs, for balls. The Texas offense backed him though with HR's from Nelson Cruz, Mitch Moreland, Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler.
My streak is back up to 2 in Beat The Streak with yesterday's Josh Hamilton/David Wright double down. Tonight I'll double again with Ryan Braun vs. Paul Maholm and Matt Holliday vs. Mike Leake.
Pitching Matchups
TB @ DET - Moore vs. Porcello - I'd roll with Precello tonight. It's early in the week to make up stats if he implodes, but it's deffinitely a roll of the dice.
CWS @ CLE - Humber vs. Gomez
NYY @ BAL - Garcia vs. Chen
BOS @ TOR - Bard vs. Drabek - Bard is an interesting play here, but I'm gonna stay away for now. I don't have as much faith in him as I did in Sale.
SEA @ TEX - Beavin vs. Feliz - Feliz is a safe start I would think.
KC @ OAK - Duffy vs. Godfrey
PIT @ LAD - Correia vs. Kershaw - Correia may not get the win, but his numbers can play here.
STL @ CIN - Lohse vs. Leake - I would deffinitely start Lohse after what he did last time out.
WAS @ NYM - Detwiler vs. Gee - I like Gee here. He could surprise some people tonight. Last year he had stretches of being the Mets best pitcher.
ATL @ HOU - Hanson vs. Weiland
MIL @ CHC - Narveson vs. Maholm - I like Narveson as a stream option against the Cubs. There are actually a lot of pitchers I like as stream options against the Cubs this year.
ARI @ SD - Cahill vs. Volquez - Cahill in SD? AL pitcher to the NL, in Petco? Yes please.
