Baseball America has released their Top 100 Prospects list for 2011. Here are a few quick notes that pertain to future fantasy value.
In case you are not familiar, scouts use a 20-80 rankings scale, 80 being the highest.
- The only 80 rankings in the top 20 were Bryce Harper (power), Mike Trout (speed) and Aroldis Chapman (fastball).
- Of the top 20 prospects, only two players had a power grade of over 70: Bryce Harper (80) and Mike Moustakas (75).
- The next highest speed grades went to Billy Hamilton (80), Desmond Jennings and Dee Gordon (both at 75). Jennings is the closest of this bunch to the big leagues.
- Outside of the top 20, only pitcher Jared Cosart (Phillies) received a ranking over 70 on a pitch (75 on his fastball).
