At this point in the season, gaining ground can be hard, but if a boost in one particular category can make the difference for your team, now's the time to bear down on the stats you need. Today, we look at three players that can give you a boost in steals and are under 30 percent owned in Yahoo leagues.
Peter Bourjos, OF, LAA - 23%
At this point, it's a surprise to me that Boujos is only 23 percent owned in Yahoo leagues. Since the all-star break he has hit .330/.388/.628 with five home runs and six stolen bases. The Angels love his defense and as long as he hits, he plays. Remember, Bourjos was a preseason sleeper for his power/speed combo, having hit 19 home runs and stolen 37 combined bases between triple-A and the majors last season.
The one big negative to Bourjos's game is that he's not the most patient hitter and does swing and miss a bit too often for his skill-set. That should end up causing a regression in his BABIP, which is over .400 for the month of August. Even with a regression, Bourjos has a chance to run wild in the season's final month or so and any lack of AVG shouldn't do too much damage to your team at this point.
Robert Andino, 2B/3B/SS, BAL - 4%
Andino may only have eight stolen bases on the season, but six of those have come in the last month and a half. Since the all-star break, Andino is batting .282 and he has scored 18 runs in the last 30 days, which is the third most of any eligible fantasy 2B, tied for second most among eligible 3Bs and third most among eligible SSs.
While it's hard to say if he will continue to score runs at such a pace, he should continue to play almost everyday and could steal a few more bases the rest of the way. He stole 17 bases combined between triple-A and the majors last season.
Ben Revere, OF, MIN - 3%
Though his overall AVG is a mere .253, Revere is hitting .270 over the last 30 days with 10 stolen bases. Those ten steals tie him for third most by an outfielder over that time span. Given his elite speed and extreme line-drive/ground-ball tendencies, Revere could see some better luck in his BABIP, which is .283 in August and only about .280 overall. Should he keep his AVG above .270 the rest of the way, he shouldn't hurt your team too bad in that category. If you are in need of some serious stolen base numbers the rest of the way, Revere might be your best option.
